![]() Shawn Raysor was born and raised in New York City and is one of New York’s best kept boxing secrets. Shawn started off training with his father Joseph Raysor as well as Godfather Robert Gainesville in Connie's Gym on West 125 street. Later in his amateur career, mentor Robert “Bobbie” Miles coached him to an amateur record of 53-7. Shawn Raysor’s amateur career climaxed by capturing the PAL eastern regional championship & PAL national championship, through his amateur endeavors Shawn earned the right to be called “champ” by his peers at Connie's Gym.
After an unfortunate injury that ended his professional boxing career, Shawn decided to stay close to the sport. With his attention to the nuances of body mechanics plus expert understanding of the methodologies of the sport and in depth knowledge of boxing’s vast history, Shawn found a home training and working as a 2nd to professional fighters. Some Notable fighters include: Daniel "Pipno" Alicea former NABF Super Featherweight Champ, Kassim "The Dream" Ouma who challenged Jermaine Taylor on HBO in 2005. Shawn’s 1st job as primary trainer came when he moved to New England to work with featherweight Angel "GEE-ROC" Torres. Shawn guided Torres to an impressive record of 14-2 with ten straight wins. Next was Scott "The Sand Man" Pemberton a Super middleweight who enjoyed five straight wins under Shawn’s care. During Shawn Raysor’s time with Scott Pemberton, Scott fought two epic title battles against Omar Shieka winning the IBU and NABF Championships. Scott "The Sandman " Pemberton was rewarded with NABF fighter of the year title as well as the ESPN title for fight of the year (Pemberton vs. Shieka 2). Shawn also trained "Bad" Chad Dawson to five straight wins all by knock-outs climaxing with Dawson capturing of the WBC youth Championship Belt (22 yrs. and under). "Bad” Chad Dawson is currently the WBC Light Heavyweight Champion of the world. Shawn Raysor never lost a boxing match as trainer with these boxers under CES Promotion in New England. After his conquests in New England Shawn Raysor returned to New York City were he met and now trains Tor Hamer. Two years later Tor Hamer is crowned the number 1 ranked Super Heavyweight amateur in the United States. Tor Hamer is the winner of 10 amateur titles under the tutelage of Shawn Raysor. From novice to open class Tor Hamer won every fight and tournament he entered but one. Tor is a 3 time New York state and New York metro Golden Gloves Champion 2001,2007 and 2008. 2 time Long Island Amateur Champion ‘07,’08. Empire regional & Empire State Champion ‘07, Nickel City Champion ‘07, Eastern Regional Champion ‘08, New York City Metro Champion ‘07, and National Golden Glove Champion ‘08. Only loss was in the finals of the U.S future star's Nationals Championship in Colorado Springs ‘08 (he was awarded the silver) a loss which he later avenged in the 2008 Golden Glove nationals. |
